| Brig Gen Hoy Named
USFA Deputy CG USFA's Tactical and Area Cmds will be discontinued today, and USFA Hq will assume responsibility for the activities of these commands. Appropriate final retreat parades and retirement-of0colors ceremonies will be held at Camp Roeder for Tac Cmd and at Camp Riedenburg for Area Cmd. The proceedings at Riedenburg will commence at 9 am. Col Fredric C. Cook, CO, will deliver an address. Following the ceremonies, a reception will be held at the Österreichischer Hof. Tac Cmd proceedings will begin at 4:15. Following retirement of the colors, Brig Gen Charles E. Hoy, Tac Cmd CG, will address the troops. Invitations Extended Invitations to the Area and Tac Cms final retreats were sent out to high-ranking USFA officers, State Department officials and Austrian dignitaries. Informal Tac Cmd farewell ceremonies were held at Camp McCauley Wednesday and at Saalfelden and St Johann yesterday. Area Cmd personnel at Linz, Innsbruck, St Johann and Saalfelden will observe the discontinuance of their command today. General Hoy will be the host at a reception in the Roeder Officers Club tonight. Area Cmd Composition Area Cmd is composed of the service and administrative units of USFA and was activated two years ago, combining the Salzburg and Linz military posts. Area units provided support for the last two command maneuvers - Exercise "Mudlark" in October, 1953, and "Roundup" in March of this year. Tac Cmd, which contained virtually all of USFA's "combat" units, was informally established in 1950. On January 13, 1951, the command was formally announced. Before Gen Hoy, the Brig Gen James C. Fry and Brig Gen Paul L. Freeman headed the command. Among the many exercises in which the men of Tac Cmd participated were "Alpine," "Rebound," "Snowshoe," "Avalanche," "Frosty," "Mudlark" and "Roundup." |
