Vienna Exodus Phasing Out Famed International Patrol
(Source: STARS & STRIPES, Monday, August 22, 1955)

The famed International Patrol, after more than 10 years of around-the-clock operation, now is on a standby basis here in the city of Vienna. Its American element membership has dwindled to six members, and only three of the distinctive black-and-white flag-bedecked sedans still remain in Vienna.

A symbol of four-power cooperation, the international patrol came into being Aug. 5, 1945, when the Russian, British and American provost marshals agreed to a series of patrols within the various sectors of the divided city. The French forces joined the patrol in September 1945.

In the early days jeeps were used as patrol vehicles. However, these versatile vehicles were found too small to accommodate the four patrol members and necessary radio equipment. As a result, radio-equipped four-door sedans replaced the jeeps in December 1951.

Since that date the Vienna Comd has used its distinctive black-and-white Chevrolet sedans for patrol activities during the monthly tenureship of the British, French and American powers. The Soviet element provides cream-colored Pobeyeda sedans during the month it is responsible for Vienna's international sector. All IP vehicles fly miniature flags of the four powers from their right front fenders while on patrol.

US Army Hospital, Vienna
Brief History

(Source: Don Maloney)

The 110th Station Hospital was activated on 17 July 1942 at Camp Pickett, VA, per GO (General Orders) #37.

On 15 January 1944, the unit occupied Block E of the Royal Hospital at Netley, Hampshire, England.

On 19 March 1945, the 110th moved across the English Channel to Camp Phillip Morris near Harfleur, France, and began operation as a tent hospital.

On 7 July 1945, the hospital unit moved to the Louis Pasteur Hospital at Le Havre, France.

On 19 September 1045, the unit undertook another move, this time to Vienna, Austria, where it relieved the 7th Field Hospital.

The unit was reorganized per GO #6, HQ USFA,
on 23 November 1953.

Again reorganized on 16 September 1954, per GO #49, HQ USFA, the unit was redesignated as US Army Hospital, Vienna.
